The Bunsen Burner is primarily used for sterilization of the loop. Other laboratories may use "furnaces" or single use plastic loops. The bunsen burner is relatively simple to operate but may cause some problems if attention is not paid to its operation.
1. Turn the gas on at the source
2. Listen for hissing at burner. If no hissing turn knob
at the bottom till hissing is heard.
3. Use the striker to light the burner. Be sure the striker
is sparking.
4. If necessary, adjust the flame using the knob on the
bottom for height and or turning the main tube for quality.
