What is Bio 112?
BIO 112 is a 4 credit hour, lab-based science course. The lecture portion of this course is taught on the internet while the laboratory portion is taught on campus in the traditional academic setting. Dealing with the study of body parts and how they function, BIO 112 is commonly taken by students destined for allied health professions. The internet lecture portion of this course is taught by Dr. Regina Hoffman, Biology professor at Midlands Technical College. The lab portion of this course is taught by a science department instructor and meets in the Academic Center - Room 363 Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00pm-8:05pm. You will need to attend the labs in person to receive credit for this course.
This is not a self-paced course, nor is it easier than the on-campus course - for some it is even harder. To be successful in this internet course you must be a self-motivated, strong reader with high comprehension skills. You must also be someone who can keep up with due dates and maintain a strict schedule. If not, then you will more than likely find yourself being overwhelmed by the material and acquiring very low grades. If you are prepared for such a course, then read on....
Tests for this course are conducted several times a term on campus by the Assessment Center. Each test is offered over a span of several days and an assortment of times to assist in your scheduling.
Fourteen homework assignments are assigned and 10 must be completed to receive credit for this course.
You will need a text book, an updated browser and Internet connection, and a personal e-mail account for the lecture portion of this course. For the lab portion, you will need a lab manual.
An Anatomy and Physiology course is a very difficult course whether it is presented on the internet or on-campus. This course requires that you read, study and comprehend a large amount of subject matter. For many of you, this will be the most difficult course you take in your academic career. You will need to be very disciplined about studying regularly and attending lab faithfully. In fact, if you miss more than 2 labs you will be dropped from the course.
