Course Materials
You must get the text now. Students will be required to study the text in order to successfully complete the tests. This web site will only serve as a necessary supplement to the text. The printed Anatomy and Physiology lecture notes are identical to the notes I use to conduct on-campus lectures. You must also get the lab manual now.
Class Attendance
Due to the nature of this being an Internet course, there is no explicit
attendance requirement for lecture except you must show up in person to take the
lecture tests and you must also complete 10 of the 14 homework assignments by
their due dates. You must also attend the lab in person. You can have
two absences in lab. On your third absence from lab, you will be dropped
from the course.
Class Announcements
Changes may be made at any time throughout this term to any part of this
syllabus by the instructor. Any major announcements will be made on one or more
of the following locations:
Tests & Final Exam
Class tests and the final exam (counts the
same as a class test except it may also replace a low class test grade) are
administered on Airport Campus and are not computer-based, but the old-fashioned
paper and pen style! Here's more specific details on tests and testing:
- Read each chapter and the chapter notes. You should not only read them but comprehend them. The first time you read through them will be a slow process. It is not like reading a novel for entertainment.
- Do the homework assignments for each chapter. Studying these will greatly prepare you for the tests.
- Answer the questions, define the terms, solve the
problems at the end of each chapter.- After you feel like you understand and have learned the material, try to answer the chapter objectives without using the notes or the book. If you can answer all the objectives without the book or notes, you are probably ready for the test.
- You should take the practice test on the chapter to see if you know the material well enough to be tested on it. It's one thing to be familiar with the material. It is another thing to know it well enough to be tested on it!
Weekly Outline
The Weekly Outline sets the pace for the readings,
labs, tests, and other activities. The Weekly Outline is on the Bio 112 site for
registered students.
E-mail
E-mail will play a role in this course, so
before you go further you must have a personal e-mail account that you can
access daily. It may not be under someone else's name. Your e-mail account
is the primary way I have of contacting you. E-mail is also the primary
way for you to contact me.
If you elect to use some of the free e-mail providers such as Hotmail or Juno, please be aware that they have a poor track record of ensuring you receive e-mail. Much has been "lost" in cyberspace. If you elect to use one of these, it will be your responsibility to keep up with all announcements and activities. This may be done by staying actively involved with your classmates.
When
communicating with the professor by e-mail,
always include in the subject heading:

Presently viruses are causing problems by riding in on e-mail attachments. Thus the important fact to remember is include no attachments to your e-mails that you submit to me. Such e-mails will be rejected if it has an attachment. Thus any e-mail correspondences with attachments will be deleted.
